Researchers now believe that coffee may counteract the negative / toxic effects of alcohol on the liver (cirrhosis).

It may be common knowledge, but because there is a fair amount of misinformation about coffee and  it’s “potentially negative side effects”, it is necessary to give just one of many examples of the health benefits of coffee. People should be aware that there is a big difference between the effects of caffeine and the effects of coffee on the body.  Caffeine amounts vary among all types of products from coffee, to energy drinks, even energy enhancing “vitamins. Coffee however; seems to have the most consistent, acceptable, and beneficial quantity of caffeine per serving, depending on the type of coffee and quantity consumed.

A recent study with a sample of 125k people showed that drinking one cup of coffee a day cut their risk of cirrhosis by up to 20 percent. Further studies showed that when the subjects increased their consumption to four cups of coffee a day, it cut their risk of cirrhosis by as much as 80%.

It is unclear as to the exact cause of the reduction in risk of cirrhosis. Researchers were unable to determine if it was a result of the caffeine or perhaps some of the other beneficial aspects of the coffee.

The study’s results did not vary among differing genders or ethnicities, it worked for everyone. Despite the promising results of this study, IT IS NOT ADVISABLE to consume large amounts of alcohol and assume that coffee will make it all ok. Coffee is a great beverage, but it isn’t a miracle elixir. Your best bet is to pick a 100% AA Arabica, certified organic coffee and forget the alcohol (or at least cut back). Drink up and be healthy ! (Coffee that is )  =)
